Bike to the Beach, October 7-8, 2006
150 miles of fun and camaraderie was experienced by the “Freedom Fighters,” our team of Soldiers and Marines who joined in the Bike to Beach ride. Hats off to our behind-the-scenes volunteers who worked diligently to set up tents, haul bike parts, sleeping bags, portable showers and meals for the athletes and crew.
It was a grand sight to see as Operation Comfort amputee Soldiers and Marines wearing team jerseys cycled “neck and neck,” pushing themselves to the limit, as they rode over the hills and dales. Our first stop was 90 miles to Beeville for an overnight. Showers were at a premium, but nobody let a little hygiene stand in the way of a great time. Up and at’em the following morning, our Freedom Fighters” hit the trail to finish the 60 miles to Corpus Christi. No easy task, 3 soldiers and 3 support folks completed the ride. All participants had a fine time and are looking forward to our next cycling experience which will be announced in the near future.
